BOOK REVIEW: Diviners by Libba Bray

Just finished Diviners by Libba Bray and what can I say....it blew me away! It is a fabulously well written, detail-packed book that easily transports the reader back in time to New York City in the times of the Ziegfield girls, speakeasies and bob flapper haircuts. The main character, Evie O'Neill, has a special talent, one that gets her kicked out of her home in Ohio and results in her going to live in the big city of New York with her Uncle Will. Evie is more than thrilled with the prospect of a change in scenery. Evie is a free-spirited, fun, and playful girl that wants nothing more than to find fun and excitement in NYC. She does indeed find fun ...but also much, much more.  Evie meets a colorful cast of characters including her new best friend Mable, who she call Pie-Face, Jericho, a man that her Uncle Will has taken under his wings (with his own bizarre secret), Sam the pickpocket, Theta (a Ziegfield girl) and Henry, a neighbor in the apartment complex where she lives with

BOOK REVIEW: Fragile by M. Leighton

Fragile by M. Leighton was a recommended read by a friend, a fantastic author herself. I fell in love with the book and the writing within, almost immediately! The storyline involves a football-playing high school heartthrob, a teenaged boy named Hardy. Hardy appears to have it all; a gorgeous cheerleader girlfriend, a successful football career, popularity and friends galore. Hardy, however, has aspirations that may differ from the football scholarship path his father has planned for him. Enter a girl named Miracle. Hardy first happens upon Miracle in a park where she is about to release a red balloon...something meaningful to her (which plays into the storyline), but instead gives it away to a little boy that desperately wants it. Miracle is not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well. She also happens to be a very sick girl. The story moves on from there. Hardy encounters quite a few life changing experiences. This story is so beautifully scripted and the characte

BOOK REVIEW: Unlikely Allies by Tiffany King

I was on pins and needles, anxiously awaiting the release of this book, Unlikely Allies by Tiffany King. Being a huge fan of Tiffany King's work, I  had high expectations for it. I was not disappointed in the least -- this book exceeded my expectations! Tiffany King is a true wordsmith and this may even be her most brilliant work yet. (And that is quite a  statement considering her body of work is spot on, heart-felt and engaging). The story follows a teenage girl, Kimberly, who finds out about a father that she did not even know was alive until she turned 18 when her mother first revealed his existence. The adventure begins when Kimberly travels off to spend time with her new found father in Colorado. What she doesn't realize is that she will be spending time at his camp for foster children in the rugged Colorado Rocky Mountains. Kimberly, a new high school graduate and budding artist from California, arrives in Colorado, discovers that she is ill-equipped for both the terr

New Blog on Books

Since my passion is books and words and all things written....I have decided to start my very own blog on books! I will review all books that I read and will also be happy to review and post about books that authors ask me to review for them. About a week ago I read a book at the request of an author and wrote a review on his work,  The Mormon Candidate  by Avraham Azrieli. (you can find more about his work on www.AzrieliBooks.com) It was a fantastic read and I let the author know how much I enjoyed the book and also thought his work quite worthy of being on the best seller list. Today in the mail, came review copies of four of his other  works. I was felt such joy at receiving the books and excitement to delve into reading the books that it inspired me on to finally create my blog! Part of the review on The Mormon Candidate  follows: If you like reading David Baldacci and Dan Brown you will absolutely love this book! The Mormon Candidate  includes exciting plot twists, intere
